David Berry
Waterford- Captain David Rockwood Berry, retired USNR, 63, died unexpectedly Friday, March 5, 2010 while doing what he loved-playing golf.

David was born May, 4, 1946 in Livermore, ME the son of Rockwood Norton Berry of Haines City, FL and the late Louise (Garland) Berry.

A graduate of Suffield High School in 1964, David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY.

A retired USNR helicopter pilot, he and his wife, Pam, owned and operated Appleberry Farm in West Suffield, CT.

A loving family man, lover of life, proud grandfather, he touched countless people and enriched their lives with that "Berry Charm". He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and was an outdoorsman who loved being on the Sound in his boat.

He will be sadly missed by his father, Rockwood, his loving wife of 42 years, Pamela (Washburn) Berry; daughter Deborah (Berry) Clark and her husband Mark of Waterford, CT; two sons, John Chandler Berry and his wife, Julie (Moodie) of Windsor Locks, CT. and Michael David Berry and his wife, Ashley (Pugh) of Feeding Hills, MA; five grandchildren, Andrew, Daniel and Rebecca Clark, Adam Berry and Kate Berry; and two sisters, Katherine (Berry) Oestreich and her husband, Curt of Leesburg, FL and Cynthia Ann Berry, Esq. and her husband, Joseph Parker of Haines City, FL.

He was predeceased by his mother, Louise and a brother, Richard Morton Berry.

David was a member o f the Niantic Baptist Church; the American Legion Turner-Tinker Post 128, Niantic, the New London Country Club; a 20 year member of the Suffield Fireman's Association and founding father of Alpha Chi Rho at Hartwick College.

Calling hours are Thursday 4 to 6 PM at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic, CT.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Niantic Baptist Church, Main Street, Niantic, CT on Friday at 10 AM. Interment will be on Saturday at 11:00 AM in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bridge St., Suffield, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you honor his memory by directing donations to Camp Wightman (Camp Wightman is located in North Stonington, Connecticut, and provides year-round Christian hospitality and summer camping programs on 260 acres of land on the shores of Billings Lake) c/o Niantic Baptist Church, PO Box 502, Niantic, CT 06357.
