Obituary

Anthony S Ferencz, 90, of Waterford, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Bayview Healthcare Facility in Waterford.
Born, May 3, 1928, in East Lyme, he was a son of the late Martin and Mary Ferencz and was a life long resident of Waterford. Tony, as he was affectionately known, attended Chapman Tech and shortly afterward, married the former Barbara Hinkley of Waterford on October 9, 1948. She predeceased him in 2004. They made their home in Waterford and raised their family there for over 60
Tony was a volunteer fireman and lifetime member of the Oswegatchie Firehouse. He worked as a dozer operator for most of his career for the former Onuparik Construction Company for over 22 years and later went to work for Seymour, Sand and Stone from where he ultimately retired.
Tony was a lifetime member of Flanders Baptist and Community Church in East Lyme where he served as a deacon for 25 years. He loved to hunt, fish, play pinochle and cribbage. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and New England Patriots.
He loved to do woodworking also and after retirement built birdhouses. The birdhouses became well known around Southeast Connecticut and along the shoreline. His attention to detail was truly amazing. His daughter-in-law, Dawn would often help him paint them. He gave a lecture to the residents of Bayview and explained how he made them and what inspired him to make each one.
Tony was also proud to have served as a Private First Class of the National Guard of New London. For Veterans Day, the Bayview Staff presented him with a letter of recognition, which made him very proud.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Barbara, of 56 years; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; 3 brothers: George Ferencz, Francis Ferencz and Andrew Ferencz; 3 sisters: Elizabeth Mileski, Anna Stach and Sophia Hochstin.
Tony is survived by his children: Stephen (Dawn) Ferencz of Waterford, Wayne (Margi) Ferencz of Plainfield, and Sandra (Mike) McCoy of Aiken, SC; grandchildren: Merideth Payne (Shawn) of Lebanon, Holly (Nathan) Kuntz of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Jennifer (Matthew) Garon of Cincinnati, Ohio, Christina (Travis) Sell of Glenwood, Iowa, Jason (Samantha) Hawes of Vernon, Jerilyn (Jamie) Coderre of Moosup, and Robert (Mikaela) Skelton; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Hawes, Kennedy Skelton, Haley and Xander Kuntz, Marcus Garon, Mackenzie Holmes, Morgan Holmes (Tyler); great-great grandson Nolan McDonald; as well as a very special sister-in-law, Marjorie Ferencz.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Flanders Baptist and Community Church, 162 Boston Post Rd, East Lyme followed by an 11:30 funeral service. Internment at East Lyme Cemetery will immediately follow. There will be a gathering in the lower level of the church after the graveside service.
Tony, the Bayview turtle, thought the world of you all at Bayview and the family would like to thank the staff for the caregiving they provided during his stay and special thanks goes out to Amanda, Christine, Lori and Maryann.
