New London - Anne Teresa Navin, 88, formerly of Williams Street in New London, died Saturday at home with family present. She was born July 27, 1929, to Joseph and Alice (Hoppman) Shea in Norwich.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 66 years, Robert (Bob) M. Navin; children Robert D. and wife Deborah of Rockport, Texas, Sheila and husband Robert E. Sullivan of Mystic, and John M. and wife Judy of Oakdale; grandchildren Heather Navin of New York City, Bethany and husband Charles H. Taylor IV of Uncasville, Rachel Navin of Norwich, Jennifer and husband Spencer Fryar of Uncasville, Robert M. Sullivan and Sean M. Sullivan of Mystic; and great-grandchildren Charles and Brice Taylor.

After graduating from NFA in 1947, she attended Yale to be a radiology technician, but had to withdraw prior to graduation after suffering radiation sickness. After recovering, she became a switchboard operator for Ma Bell where she met the love of her life, Bob, who was working for Western Electric. Anne and Bob were married Sept. 1, 1951, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Norwich.

A lover of reading throughout her life, she was a weekly patron of the Public Library of New London, typically finishing a novel or two every few days. She retired as an employee of the New London school system.

For decades, Anne was a daily summertime fixture at Ocean Beach Park with her husband. For over 35 years, they vacationed in Ormond Beach, Fla., and had been on many Caribbean cruises and enjoyed a Hawaiian adventure for their 55th wedding anniversary.

She was a member of the St Mary's Star of the Sea Ladies Guild and the Daughters of Isabella for many years. In her later years, she had great fun with her Red Hat Society and enjoyed going out for lunch every Friday with her daughter.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the VNA and Center for Hospice Care, both of Southeastern Connecticut, for their support and care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Neilan Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Burial services will be private.
