Born in Landstuhl, Germany
Resided in Mansfield, Connecticut

Mansfield - Christopher Lee Piela, 34, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord after a long battle with addiction on Feb. 28, 2018.

He was born in Landstuhl, Germany, on May 31, 1983, to Joseph and Anke (Knapp) Piela. Chris graduated from Griswold High School, Class of 2002, and was then employed by General Dynamics as a welder for 11 years.

Chris had a love for the outdoors and spent much of his time hiking, or splitting wood. His true passion was making people laugh and being the true prankster he was. His two daughters, Cadence and Emma, were the light of his life.

Chris was predeceased by his sister, Rayleene Seyb, in March 2017. He is survived by his daughters Cadence and Emma of Waterford; his father Joseph W. Piela, and wife Mary Jo, of Mansfield; his mother Anke Piela and husband, Jose, of New Britain; his sister Megan Piela and husband, Andrew, of Uncasville; and niece Madeline Seyb of Minot, Maine. A special thanks to the staff and friends at HMM who provided Chris with the love and support he needed and truly deserved, and allowed him to be his true self.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to His Mansion Ministries, P.O. Box 40, Hillsboro, NH 03244 or online at
