Obituary

New London - Andrea Egan Baldi, 78, of New London, passed away on Saturday, June 24, at the Beechwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following complications of lung disease.

Andrea was born in New London on the first day of summer in l939, the second of three daughters to Margaret McCarthy Egan and Irving S. Egan (Ret. Lt. Cmdr. USCG).

Andrea is survived by her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Robert Baldi, whom she married in June of l966; their daughters, Diane McLaughlin (Joseph) of Squamish, Wash., Lisa Cauley of New London (and ex-husband, Tyler Cauley, of Lubbock, Texas); and grandchildren, Lindsey Cauley and Violet McLaughlin. She was predeceased by her sister, Noreen Silver.

Other survivors include her sisters, Patricia Bolles of New London and Heather O'Connor (Daniel) of Preston; nephews, Duncan and Michael Silver of Utah and Shawn Silver of California; also Ryan, Margaret and Michael O'Connor of Preston.

Andrea was born with vision problems that somewhat restricted her life. She graduated from St. Mary's School and attended New London High School. She was employed at Sheffield Tube Co. before her children were born.

As vision problems increased she became a member of the New London Center of the Blind and served on their board for many years, enjoying their friendship, services and activities until very recently.

As she became a senior citizen she volunteered and served for 14 years as a foster grandparent at the local Head Start program. With increasing loss of vision two years ago, she was forced to resign and deeply missed the staff, teachers and children who brought so much joy to her life.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. The Neilan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In Andy's memory, please consider a contribution to the New London Center of the Blind, 120 Broad St., New London.

Her family sincerely wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Beechwood for the excellent care and support she received during the last week of her life.

The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London is assisting the family with the arrangements.
