Obituary

Ira Spector, 81, passed away surrounded by his family on April 29, 2017, following an illness.
He was born and raised in the Bronx, NY by his parents Samuel and Lillian Spector. He graduated from CCNY with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to join the Air Force where he became a 2nd Class Airman and worked in Air Force Intelligence. On return from his military career he started his own photography business doing weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and portraits. For the past 15 years he worked in sales at Gorins Furniture.
His loves were playing trumpet, amateur radio and spending time with family.
He is survived by his former wife Susan Gallant (Gil); children Shana and Tyler of Waterford, Beth (Jeff) of Winnetka, IL, Jonathan (Anna) of Harbin, China, Serena (Alan) of Buffalo Grove, IL; grandchildren Joshua, Jordyn and Jared. Ira was predeceased by his sisters Phyllis and Bobby.
We would like to thank John Ronski, Libie and Rob Attwater, and Rabbi Carl Astor for all their love and support. We would also like to thank Dr. Hellman and his staff from Dana Farber Cancer Center in Waterford for keeping him in such good spirits during such a difficult time. Also, a huge thank you to the hospice nurses and aides for their wonderful care and support.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 PM Monday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will follow in Beth El Cemetery, Groton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Center for Hospice Care, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.
