Obituary

Age 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2018 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital following a courageous year long battle with cancer. Mike was born in Chelsea, MA the son of the late, Capt. Joseph C. and Annette (McNeal) Snyder. A lifelong resident of New London, Mike graduated from Saint Bernard High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Mike worked for Pfizer Corporation in Groton for 35 years and retired in 2001. Mike enjoyed his retirement, especially spending time golfing with his friends and looking for his ball. He was known to take the occasional "Mulligan". Mike was an avid Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He loved spending time with his large family and his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan (Antonelli) Snyder of New London. His daughter, Kristine (Andrews) Gigliotti and husband, Tim of Waterford and his son, Steven Andrews and his partner, Beth Mack of New London. His grandchildren, Makayla Andrews, Julia Gigliotti and Nicholas Gigliotti. His siblings; Joseph C. "Skip" Snyder and wife, Ann of MD, Mary Ellen Snyder of CT, Sharon Whittemore and wife, Debra Marks of CA, Elizabeth "Libby" Straiter, and husband, Stan of MD, Nancy Faircloth and husband, Don of CT, James "Jim" Snyder, and wife, Kathy of NJ, John Snyder and wife, Mary of CT, Kathy Schneider and husband, Kurt of OR and Paula Marggraf and husband, Rob of NH. Mike's brother, Frank Snyder and nephew, USN Lt. Christopher Snyder also pre-deceased him. Mike is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and very close friends. Mike will be remembered as a quiet man who was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. The funeral procession will assemble at 10:15 AM Monday at the funeral home and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church scheduled for 11 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Save Ocean Beach or to the Cactus Jack Foundation.
