Stuart Case Obituary

Mystic- Stuart Case, 79, of Mystic, died January 27, 2021 at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.
The following tribute was written by Stuart’s wife Lenore on his passing:
Reality has sunk in. I thought we would live “forever” even with all our aches and pains. I should have known better. I miss Stuart, good times and sad times, arguing, and celebrating.
He was so smart, read everything. The last books he read were: “The End of Everything-(astrophysical speaking )“is that prophetic now?: “The Human Cosmos”: and “RAGE” (that’s how feel now.) He was also an aficionado of aviation literature and films.
Stuart attended elementary and High school in Brooklyn, New York. He was a graduate of Columbia University and received a master’s degree in economics from the New School in New York. He went on to receive a J.D. from the Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts.
We enjoyed living in our small town of Hampton, CT for over 40 years where he was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and Probate Judge.
We enjoyed travelling and Stuart needed to stop at almost every museum.
One of our best trips was to Alaska, at first to my son David’s home in the Bush country and then to Soldotna with my gracious daughter-in-law, Amanda. Our hosts were the best. Our kids made sure that we were not bored for a minute with, parties, great restaurants, boat trips to watch whales and other wild life. Stuart was especially happy with Amanda who was so attentive to him --more than I was. We were both looking forward to a return trip.
Stuart and I met in NYC where we both worked at McGraw Hill. We were both out of college—Stuart graduated Columbia University. He was an Editor at Engineering News Record. We eventually made it to Connecticut where he worked at UConn, writing for the Alumni Magazine. Life changed and he decided to attend Western New England University Law School in Springfield, MA at an advanced age. He made it through with honors. He had a private practice and was a probate judge.
He mourned for the many cats he adored and spoiled. Now I know our Barney boy will miss him since believe it or not they would read the “Economist” together.
We’re at StoneRidge now where covid cut our chances to enjoy Mystic and our friends new and old.
