Niantic- Ronald W. Rothgeb Jr., 71, of Niantic passed away March 31, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT.

He was born November 18, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Ronald W. and Roselyn (Agler) Rothgeb Sr.

A graduate of Purdue University, Mr. Rothgeb began graduate work at Notre Dame University. A call to serve his country interrupted his studies and he joined the Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant and served aboard the USS Stonewall Jackson SSBN634 until leaving the Navy in 1974. Upon discharge from the Navy he was employed for 27 years by Northeast Nuclear Energy beginning on Millstone Unit 2 as a start-up engineer and holding several management positions on Millstone Unit 3.

Survived by his wife of 43 years, Pamela (Atkinson) Rothgeb and their daughter, Charity Rothgeb-Cleary and her husband, Michael; two grandchildren Teagan and Michael Cleary; a brother, Dr. Timothy Michael Rothgeb and his wife Betty and a sister, Teresa Brennan and her husband John and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Indiana Freemasons, New Haven Lodge 740, F&AM, New Haven, Indiana; Past Patron, Nehantic No.102, Order of the Eastern Star, Niantic; and now Radiant Chapter No. 11, Order of the Eastern Star, North Windham, CT.

A Memorial Service will be held May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Niantic Baptist Church, Niantic, CT. Interment will be Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 the South End Cemetery, Plantsville. There are no calling hours.
