Robert C. McClung, 65, of Niantic, CT passed away December 27, 2017 at his residence.
He was born in Arlington, VA, the son of Gordon and Helen (Kelly) McClung.
He was raised in Charlestown, MA,  where he attended St. Mary’s Grammar School. A 1970 graduate of Boston Technical High School, an outstanding athlete, he was quarterback on the football team and a track star setting records in the city of Boston.
He was employed at Stone & Webster in Boston and was recently retired from Electric Boat, where he worked for 30 years as a Senior Designer. He enjoyed playing softball and basketball in leagues around Boston in his youth. His favorite pastime was playing golf with his brothers and many friends. He was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins fan. He loved his collection of sports memorabilia. Some of his favorite memories were attending Super Bowl 16 and the 7th game of the Celtics/Lakers Championship at the Garden in 1984 and the Red Sox World Series Championship Parade in Boston in 2004 with his family.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Cailin McClung (Matthew Speed) of Waterford and Kelly (Harry) Longinidis of Waterford; a Son, John McClung of Madison, WI; His close nephew, Robert (Denise) McClung; His former wife Karrie Austin of Harrison Township, MI; He was a devoted Grandfather to Cadence Piela, Emma Piela, Jordyn Speed, Zoe Longinidis and Melina Longinidis; Three Brothers, Paul (Karen), Billy (Michelle) and Mike (Liz) McClung; Seven Sisters, Mary (Richie) King, Dorothy Baird, Peggy (Tommy) Mullin, Anne Marie Thomas, Debbie (Jimmy) Celeste, Diane McClung, Kimberly Mitchell, brother in law Mike Montgomery, God Daughter Briana Mullin and many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces and his many friends from Electric Boat. Along with his father, he was predeceased by two sisters, Middy Fay and Carol Montgomery. Along with brother in laws Andy Thomas, David Mitchell and nephew Colin Doran.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday (Jan. 2nd) from 5-7 pm at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic.
The funeral procession will assemble on Wednesday (Jan. 3rd) at 10:15 am from the funeral home and proceed to St. Agnes Church, Haigh Avenue, Niantic for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM.
In Honor of Bob we ask that you wear your favorite Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics or Bruins jerseys to the services. Yankee fans not welcome. (Just kidding)
