Waterford- Robert “Bob” Eldon Buttermore Jr. passed away on September 5th, his 70th birthday at Lawrence and Memorial hospital in New London with his wife by his side.

Bob was born in Chincoteague Island, VA to his predeceased parents Robert “Doc” Eldon and Marion Deane Buttermore on September 5th 1947. Bob grew up in Noank, CT with his two brothers Sid and Dennis Buttermore. He graduated from Fitch Senior High School in 1965.
After graduating high school Bob started at Electric Boat as a clerk/draftsman in 1965. Bob worked at Electric Boat for 37 years and retired in 2002 as a Ship’s Superintendent. He left his work constantly saying “I won’t miss the work but I will miss the people” which was evident by the way he kept up with so many people in person and on the phone as his condition worsened.
Bob had two boys from his first marriage, Brent Buttermore was born in 1972 and Craig Buttermore was born in 1975. Bob married Patricia “Patty” Buttermore in 1979 and had two more boys. Keith Buttermore was born in 1985 and Robert Buttermore was born in 1987.
In 1965 Bob joined the Naval Reserves for a short stint until he was medically discharged. Bob served on the SS-409 “Piper” submarine during his service.

Bob grew up fishing and lobstering with his father and brothers on his father’s boat the “SeaWitch” which was docked in Noank. As well as being on the water, Bob enjoyed camping with his family at various local campgrounds, gardening in his backyard, cutting/splitting firewood for his home, watching the Red Sox, scratch lottery tickets, playing golf, and spending winters down at Plantation Estates in Fort Myers, Florida as a snow bird.

Bob is survived by his wife Patty Buttermore (Maynard) of 37 years who lives in Waterford. Bob’s brothers: Sid Buttermore with Melissa of Groton and Dennis Buttermore of Stonington. Bob’s sons: Brent Buttermore with Stephanie in Clifton Park, NY. Craig Buttermore with Cassie Adam in Mystic, CT. Keith Buttermore with Jessica in Uncasville, CT. Robert Buttermore with Nina in Waterford, CT. Bob also has two grandsons, Tyler Buttermore and Parker Buttermore, two granddaughters Auddie Buttermore (predeceased) and Lennox Buttermore, and two more on the way.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Disabled Veterans at to support the family.

A memorial service will be held on Monday September 11, 2017 at 11 O’ clock at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home 12 Ocean Avenue New London.
