Obituary

Robert was born January 9, 1938 in New London, CT, the son of Joseph J. and Gertrude Harris Douchette. He graduated from New London High School in 1956, and joined the Army in June 1956, and served with the Southern European Task Force in Vicanza, Italy as a team leader in mountain outposts in the Alps which were part of NATO.
He was employed with Mayflower moving company for 14 years, nine of which he drove long distance out of Oakland and San Francisco. He later worked at Millstone Units 1, 2 and 3 in Waterford, CT as a Foreman and then General Foreman for the three units until retirement in 1992 after 19 years.
Upon retirement he was employed by the New England Security Services as an armed guard, Transferring to Special Operations Security Forces as an armed guard for power stations in Eastern Connecticut, and a body guard for Diebold ATM Technicians. Robert also assisted Westbrook State Police patrolling a county road adjacent to his security site. He worked jointly with the National Guard at Camp Niantic.
He entertained at various places in Connecticut as a country singer including 15 years at the American Legion in Niantic, CT.
He was predeceased by a wife, Mary Francis; brothers Joseph, Walter, Larry and sister Lorraine and daughter Cheryl. He leaves behind his loving wife Ginger Davis Douchette; daughter Darlene Avery; son Robert Douchette, Jr. (Ethel); son Robert Smeeton, Jr (Shelley); Gary Gauvin (Chrissy); Allen Donatello (Diana); 16 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Robert's life will be held on June 30th from 1-4 at the Waterford VFW Home on the Boston Post Rd in Waterford.
