Obituary

New London - Peter T. Swift, 93, of Colman St., entered into his well-earned eternal rest on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home in the presence of his loved ones.
He was born on June 5, 1913, on Fishers Island, N.Y., the son of Charles A. and Gilda Mastrangelo Swift.

He married the love of his life, Helen Morin, on Feb. 14, 1941, at the rectory of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. They celebrated nearly 54 years of happiness until her passing on Feb. 4, 1995.

Together they established a home where love and laughter dwelled and raised their children, Joan H. Swift Discordia of New London, Richard E. Swift of Groton, Nancy Swift Elswick of Brookshire, Tex., and Michael J. Swift Sr. of Miami Beach, Fla. He relished the role of grandpa to his six grandchildren, William T., Lori J., Steven C., and Peter M. Discordia, Wendy A. Quintana and Michael J. Swift; nine great-grandchildren, Jaime, Kelly and David Mercado, Dante and Ariana Antonelli, Jasmyn and Brenna Discordia, Lauryn Quintana and Kendall Swift; three brothers, Charles, George, and William Swift; a sister, Priscilla Woodstock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Thomas P. Swift and a sister, Lucille Swift.

He was formerly employed as a young man at A&P and W.T Grant. In his later years during World War II, he was employed at the Victory Yard at Electric Boat. He retired from Pfizer after 26 years in June 1978. He was a 75-year member of the Niagara Engine Co., a life member of RAFA, Branch #1, Chapter #1 of New London. He was an usher at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church.

He was a quiet, soft spoken man who shunned the limelight, but he was steady as a rock for his family and all roads led to him. His family will miss him greatly, but they know that Mom and Tommy were waiting to greet him in a place where "supper is always ready" and "the bus is leaving".

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, New London. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave, New London.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice SE CT, PO Box 902, Uncasville CT. 06382 or St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London CT. 06320.
