Nicole (Nicky) Londregan Modugno, 93, of Westomere Terrace, passed away Saturday, October27, 2007 at the Fountain View Care Center in Waterford after a brief stay.

She was born August 26, 1914 in New London the daughter of Francesco and Domenica (Longo) Pescatello who emigrated here from Tusa, Sicily in 1900. Nicky was the youngest of 5 children. She was predeceased by all 4 of her siblings, John and Jack Pescatello, Mary Sandora and Angelina Tudisco.

She married Wilfred (Bill) Londregan in August of 1933. He died October 15th, 1965. During their marriage Nicky and Bill raised 2 sons, Francis T. and Thomas J. Londregan of New London. Nicky worked for many years in retailing on State Street. She also worked as a clerk in the Motor Vehicle Department and as a teachers aid at the former Saltonstall School. She and Bill were avid Red Sox Fans, a devotion she maintained throughout life no matter where she lived.

Nicky married Humberto (John) Modugno of New Jersey on January 6, 1970. She lived and worked in New Jersey before moving to Florida where she worked for 12 years as a teacher’s assistant in special education, a career of which she was most proud. They returned to New London to spend their last years with family. John died July 27, 2002.

She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Woman’s Club and the Harbor Club. She was an avid Bridge player and played frequently until the last few months of her life. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in New London.

Nicky was very active in city politics during the 40s and the 50s. She was a member of the Democratic Town Committee for many years. She was appointed Assistant Registrar of Voters during some of those years. She was later appointed to the Municipal Police Court where she served 8 years as Probation Officer.

Of all the roles she played and titles she carried, the one that gave her the most amount of pleasure and satisfaction was simply that of “Grandma Nicky.”

Her two sons and their spouses survive her. They are Francis T. and Shirley Londregan and Thomas J. and Kathleen Londregan, allof New London. Her 6 grandchildren and their spouses also survive. They are Stephen and Donna Londregan of Southbridge, Mass., Mary Beth and Frank Zichelli, of South Orange, New Jersey, Timothy and Dawn Londregan of Old Lyme, Michael and Elizabeth Londregan of South Riding, Virginia, Christopher and Melissa Londregan of Mount Laurel, New Jersey and Jeffrey and Jennifer Londregan of New London. Eighteen great-grandchildren survive and they are William Londregan, Meghan Zichelli, Kalli Londregan, Max Zichelli, Katie Zichelli, Jonathan Londregan, Lauren Londregan, T.J. Londregan, Kelsey Londregan, Jack Zichelli, Emily Londregan, Allison Londregan, Annie Kate Londregan, Ryan Londregan, Tessa Londregan, Mia Londregan, Maggie Londregan, and Erin Frances Londregan. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were central and foremost in her life.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Joseph School Endowment Fund, 25 Squire St., New London, Ct., 06320. The fund supports the school where three generations of Londregans have been and are being educated.

Relatives and friends may call at the Neilan Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London, Friday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, Squire Street, New London, at 11AM.Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London.
