Martin Bruckner, 91, long-time resident of New London, Conn., passed away in Boca Raton, FL. . Mr. Bruckner was born in the Bronx and grew up in Brooklyn, NY, attending Boys High School and Long Island University, Brooklyn campus. He received his master's degree and 6 th year administrator's certificate from the University of Hartford and the University of London, respectively. He was a Captain and flight instructor in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Marty spent more than 20 years teaching elementary school, primarily at Great Neck School in Waterford. He also spent two years as principal in Cromwell. After his retirement, he opened a sewing machine shop and ice cream shop in downtown New London. Bruckner served as director of the Child Guidance Clinic and was one of the leaders in the fight to bring busing to New London so students wouldn't have to rely on public transportation to get to school. .
Martin's life was filled with joy and an abundance of friends. He claimed his proudest accomplishment was the raising of his five children to be happy and successful adults. His life was enhanced by the friends he made in Boca. The "Air Fours" met every morning to have spirited political discussions, tell jokes and keep the Yiddish language alive. His family is grateful for Ken, Don, AJ, and Jerry who made him laugh and kept his mind young.
He was fortunate to have loved and been loved by two wonderful women, Selma Goldstein Bruckner, who passed away in 1980. He is survived by his second wife Edith Plotnick Einhorn Bruckner.
He is also survived by his son Richard and Betsy Bruckner, Arcadia, CA; daughter Sherry Turner, East Lyme, CT; son Mike and Jane Bruckner, Allentown, PA; daughter Elaine and Frank Abel, Waldoboro, ME; and daughter Susan Bruckner, Chevy Chase, MD., Grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, Mark, Keith, Katie, Jennifer and Samantha; and three great grandchildren, Cooper, Tucker and Anderson.
Sadly, he was also pre-deceased by his son-in-law Philip Turner in 2011, his brother, Benjamin Bruckner of Silver Spring, MD, and a sister Aliza Bruckner Lieberman of Ginot Shomron, Israel.

Martin's life was rich with love and happiness. In lieu of flowers his family would like each of you to make someone's day brighter, tell a joke(preferably a really bad one) and encourage your favorite youth to continue their education.
