Obituary

New London - Joyce A. Pavent passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at her home in New London. Joyce was born on Feb. 27, 1945 in Fall River, MA. She settled with her family in Connecticut and attended New London High School. She later graduated from Ona M. Wilcox School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
She served her country proudly as a member of the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps during the Vietnam War. She then worked as a Head Nurse at Middlesex Memorial, L&M, and Backus Hospitals over several decades. She later changed her career path, becoming a paralegal for multiple law firms in Groton, specializing in medical litigation. Joyce rounded out her professional career by returning to her roots as a visiting nurse for Mariner Medical until retirement.
Joyce took every opportunity to travel throughout the years. She often spoke fondly of her trips to
Egypt, Germany, and Poland. She loved supporting local sports, especially the NE Patriots and the UCONN Women’s basketball team attending several Final Four matches with family and friends. She celebrated every holiday by showering family and friends with gifts thoughtfully tailored to each individual. She had a special place in her heart for all of God’s furry creatures including her Yorkie, Tyler, whom brought her immeasurable joy.
Joyce leaves behind her brother Edward Pavent, sisters Paula Lorentz and Joan Goodrick, along with several nieces and nephews whom she adored. She is also survived by her godson, Erik Bentley, and mother, Jenny, whom she has cared for since her father Edward passed in 2001. She was loved and respected by all.
Joyce’s family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, February 18 at Thomas L.
Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave, New London. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel at Notre Dame Cemetery, 1540 Stafford Rd, Fall River, MA at 11 am on Tuesday, February 19. A devotion mass will take place on Tuesday, February 19 at 4:30 pm at the Catholic Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption, Enders Island, 1 Enders Island, Mystic, CT.
