July 6, 1948 - September 27, 2018
Born in Milford, Massachusetts
Resided in Niantic, Connecticut

Niantic - Jean Pellegri, of Niantic, passed away recently at the age of 70, after a short battle with cancer. During her illness she was tenderly cared for by her loving partner, Edward Pellegri and daughter Aimee Pellegri, both of Waterford.

Ms. Pellegri grew up in Franklin, Mass. and earned a degree in nursing from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1969, working briefly as a nurse before spending several years traveling the country as an Air Force wife and young mother during the Vietnam War. Ms. Pellegri then settled with her family in Southeastern Connecticut where she resumed a lifelong career in nursing. Her deep sense of empathy made her particularly well suited to serving the community in tenures at Southeastern Connecticut Alcohol & Drug Detox (SCADD) in New London, followed by more than two decades at York Correctional Institution in Niantic, from which she retired in 2005.

From her home in Niantic, Ms. Pellegri lived simply during retirement, enjoying various eclectic pursuits such as zydeco music & dancing, collecting "pudding stones" from area shorelines, and classic movies.

Ms. Pellegri is also survived by a brother, William "Billy" Ayotte of Bellingham, Mass., her son Mark, daughter in law Michelle, and grandsons Simon and Luca, all of Roswell, Ga. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Doris (Brennan) Ayotte, as well as a brother, Paul, and sister, Susan. Friends and loved ones are invited to make donations in Jean's name to Covenant Shelter of New London or the Niantic Animal Hospital's Friends of Feral Felines program.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct 5, 2018, 11 O’clock at the Niantic Community Church 170 Pennsylvania Avenue Niantic. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home 48 Grand St.
