Niantic - Jean H. Rubinsky, 85, of 43 Laurel Hill Drive, Niantic, died Monday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1921 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Nathan and Sarah Zavatsky Hytone.

She married Ludwig K. Rubinsky in Jamaica, N.Y., on Jan. 8, 1950.

She graduated in 1943 from Drake University in Des Moines, where she studied English, drama, and radio production, writing, and programming. Before coming to New York in 1944, she began her career at several Des Moines radio stations, writing and commentating numerous women's and children's programs.

In Manhattan, she worked at NBC, and later at Benton & Bowles as a radio and television copywriter.

Upon her husband's retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Mrs. Rubinsky joined him as he opened a marine electronics business, Electronautical Equipment, which the couple ran for more than 30 years until they retired in 2000.

Mrs. Rubinsky was active as member of Temple Emanu-El in Waterford for more than 40 years, and received the Temple's Howard Ilson Award for long-time service in 2004. In addition, she was a member of the East Lyme Women's Club.

Besides her two daughters Jane Rubinsky of New York City and Melissa Rubinsky of Cambridge, Mass., Mrs. Rubinsky is survived by her brother, Jay Hytone, of Des Moines, and two nieces and two nephews.

A funeral service will be held at noon today, December 20th, at Temple Emanu-El, 29 Dayton Road, Waterford. Burial will be in Norwich Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery, Norwich. A memorial service will be held at the Rubinsky residence at 7:30 p.m. today.
