Born in Norwich, CT
Resided in Waterford, Connecticut

James C. Lundborg, ‘Captain Chaos’ to his friends, passed on peacefully in the early morning of July 3, 2020. He was 73.

Jim was born in Norwich at The Backus on August 22, 1947. He grew up in New London, attending Harbor Place Grammar School, on to New London High School and then to University of Connecticut for 2 years of business courses. He settled in Waterford, not too far from his childhood home.

Jim started his working career as a bartender in local restaurants, but his passion was travel. He soon worked for Kaplan Tours for 11 years, then went on to be president and founder of his own travel company, Great Escape Tours. For 10 years, he hosted and guided tours for adult and student groups to destinations throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Jim was certified travel councilor through the Travel Institute and The American Bus Association. He was a guest lecturer at Johnson & Wales School of Hotel & Travel Management. He was a representative for the National Tour Association and a panelist for the Association of Westchester Travel Agents Showcase.

Jim adored his sister Marge and was her companion and caretaker for many
years until her death. Jim was an active, enthusiastic member of the Waterford Historical Society. He continued to have great interest in all things history, and good memories of his travel days.

Jim was pre-deceased by his parents, Carl A. and Agnes (Bjork) Lundborg, and by his brother Harold and sister Marge. He is survived by his brother, Robert LaBrie of Norwich, his sister-in-law, Connie LaBrie, several cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

Jim will be remembered fondly for his ‘gift for gab’, his generosity, and his caring soul.

Graveside service for Jim will be at Jordan Cemetery in Waterford on Tuesday, July 7th at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to his favorite local causes; The Community Foundation of Eastern CT or Child & Family Agency of Southeast CT.
