Obituary

Plainfield- Irene C. Minnie, 90, of 32 Kate Downing Rd. Plainfield, while surrounded by family, made the journey to her eternal home Tuesday morning.

Irene was born on October 14, 1914 in Chicopee Falls Massachusetts, the daughter of Zephir and Ida (Fournier) Chartier. In the late 1930's, Irene became the wife of James J. Minnie of New York State. The couple made their first homes in Massachusetts and Vermont, but eventually settled, with their four children, in Southeastern Connecticut. After being widowed in 1972, Irene lived for many years in New London, Groton, and Plainfield.

Irene was a loving, selfless, woman who was devoted entirely to God, church, and her family. Her blue eyes gleamed like gems, her laughter was like music, and her hugs were quick to comfort. Her sense of giving was shown in innumerable ways and just as many times. In her passing, she has left the family with three of the greatest gifts she could offer, the time she spent here on Earth with us, her memory, and the hope of sharing life eternal with her in the years yet to come.

Irene's family and friends find comfort in knowing she has now been embraced by the loved ones that have gone on before her. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, twelve siblings, and one grandson (Michael W. Ballman).

The family she leaves with millions of memories and unconditional love are daughter Claire Hall of Quaker Hill, son Robert Minnie and wife Nancy of Riverview, Florida, daughter Norma Kline and husband Richard Fernald of Viera Florida, and daughter Jean and husband Robert Ballman. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, Robert Minnie Jr., Cheryl (Kline) Zupan, Victoria Minnie, Jeffery Ballman, Carole Hall, Steven Minnie, Bruce Ballman, Brian Hall, Timothy Ballman, Glenn Kline, Kevin Minnie, Amy Kline and thirteen great grandchildren who lovingly knew her as "Memere".

The funeral service will assemble on Friday at 10:15 AM at the Neilan Funeral Home 12 Ocean Ave., and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St, New London, at 11 AM. Burial will follow immediately afterward at St. Mary's Cemetery, Jefferson Ave., New London. Calling hours are Thursday 4-6 PM.
