Quaker Hill — George Simpson Jr. passed away Jan. 31, 2021, in his home with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 14, 1946, in New London to the late Doris (Johnson) Simpson and the late George Simpson Sr. He was predeceased by his wife Sandy and is survived by his daughters, Tracey Watkins of East Haddam and Beth Stepski and his son-in-law Michael Stepski, both of Quaker Hill.
After graduating from Waterford High School, George began employment with Pfizer; beginning a career that spanned 35 years. He also worked part-time doing mechanical work with his friend, Bobby Blinderman at the former Atlas Van Lines in Waterford. It would not be unusual to see George working in his driveway on a Sunday morning bleeding the brakes of a moving van with the reluctant help of one of his daughters. After retirement, George worked alongside his daughter Tracey in her landscaping business. He mowed lawns, picked up leaves and fixed equipment up until the time that his cancer made these tasks too difficult.
After the death of his wife, George moved across the street from his parents- both of which helped raise his daughters. When his parents were older, he could often be found mowing their lawns, doing their laundry and making sure they had everything they needed. He was an extremely private individual, but if you were lucky to have known him, he would have given you the shirt off his back.
In addition to his daughters, George is survived by his grandchildren Camron and Abby Watkins; his sister Nancy Hubbert; his Aunt Mary Lou Johnson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at the discretion of his daughters. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Center for Hospice Care of Southeastern Connecticut.
