Waterford - George Menghi, 73, of Waterford, went home to the Lord March 18, 2021. He was born Sept. 10, 1947, in New London, to the late Guerino and Marie (Bueck) Menghi.

George was a 1965 graduate of New London High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War. He retired as a union carpenter Local 24 working many years on the casinos, Crystal Mall, EB, Newport Bridge, Millstone, Stop & Shop and more.

Survivors include his daughter Susan Menghi of Waterford; and a grandson, Matthew Tillinghast of Rocky Mount, N.C.: a sister, Joyce Meehan of Waterford; niece and nephew and grandnephews as well as several cousins,

He was a member of the Waterford RTM in the late '80s as well as on the building committee for the current Waterford Police Department. George was a man of faith and a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church attending Mass weekly and serving on committees. He enjoyed cars and attended the annual Ferrari show in West Hartford with his daughter and grandson. He enjoyed driving around in his yellow Mustang. He also enjoyed his weekly meetup with his friends at Wendy's and going to the casino. Hardworking, loyal and dedicated, he was always helping those who asked. He was brave in fighting the battle against prostate cancer. He received several blood transfusions which gave him time and quality of life. Please consider donating blood in his memory, so others could enjoy more time like he did.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian burial Monday, March 22, at St. Joseph's Church followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery. COVID-19 protocol will be followed.
