Obituary

George J. Swift Sr. passed away into The Lord's Hands on Friday, April 24, 2015. He was 96. He had been living at Groton Regency for several months prior to his death.
George was the son of Charles A. and Gilda ( Mastrangello ) Swift. George was born on July 11, 1918 in New London, Ct. He attended local schools, including The Buckeley High School For Boys.
George married Virginia Ethel Morin and, they were happily married for 34 years. Years later, George remarried. He married Doris Deyo, and, they remained married until her passing, in 2007. George and Virginia raised their family in and around New London, Ct. George is survived by one brother: William Swift, and, was pre-deceased by his parents, and, his two wives, and, the remainder of his brothers and sisters. Chronilogically: Charles, Peter, Lucille, and, Priscilla Woodstock Swift. George and Virginia had four children: George Jr., Peter, David, and Theresa . All survive him. Mr. Swift served proudly in the United States Army for twenty years. He enlisted at the age of 18, and, served in World War II, and, the Korean War. During World War II at the Battle of The Bulge, George earned two Purple Heart Medals, and, a Bronze Star With Valor Medal.
George did many charitable acts and services for hundreds of people, and, asked for nothing in return. Mr. Swift was a member of The Knights of Columbus, The Retired Armed Forces Association, The American Legion, and, The Elks.
He will be sadly missed by his four children, his eight grandchildren, his six great grandchildren, and, his many nieces/nephews and many many friends.
