Obituary

East Lyme - George Edson Wadsworth Sr., 87, of 290 Chesterfield Road, East Lyme, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Willimantic, the third of five children born to Doris (Seabury) and Earle Winthrop Wadsworth. He graduated from Chapman Tech in 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force the same year. George proudly served his country for four years as a B29 crew member during the Korean War.

He graduated from Hillyer College in 1956, then started his first business "Georges Radio"; He was vice president of Ajax Engineering, then president and CEO of Atlantic Coast Engineering until his retirement. George was a jack of all trades and held plumbing and electrical licenses, was a pilot, and owned his Cherokee Warrior.

George was a life member of the Elks, VFW, American Legion and United Commercial Travelers. He was also a charter member of the Niantic Sportsman Club and was a past master of Bayview Lodge of Masons.

George was a generous man. He loved dogs and big band music. He knew how to have a good time. He was a good father, a loyal friend and a great drinking buddy. George never missed an opportunity to tell you he loved you.

George is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Eileen Soares Wadsworth; sister, Jane Wadsworth; daughter, Nancy Provencher and her husband, Richard; stepdaughter, Lauren Connolly and fiance, Howie Robinson; stepson, Fred Lewis and fiance, Tenille DiMartino; a daughter-in-law, Mary Wadsworth; grandchildren, Dr. Katherine Reis and her husband, Christopher, Tyler Glendenning, Sean Connolly, Chazlyn Connolly, Alyssa Lewis, Josh Beranis, Rosie Beranis; a great-grandchild, Symone Glendenning, and a baby boy, Reis, to be born in June. He is also survived by his best friend and co-pilot "Mimi".

He was predeceased by his son, George E. Wadsworth Jr.; and grandson, Skip Provencher; and brothers, Dick, Bill and Captain John Wadsworth.

Everyone who remembers George is asked to celebrate his life in their own way - raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory would be quite appropriate.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Flanders Baptist Church, Niantic. Interment will follow in East Lyme Cemetery.
