Waterford - Frances Catherine Raffo Sottile, 85, of Waterford, daughter of Victor and Mary Raffo, of Mystic, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017.

Frances was born on July 30, 1932, in Mount Vernon, NY. She graduated from Stonington High School in 1950.

Frances received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 1954 and teaching degree from Willimantic Teaching College. She taught 3rd grade at Claude Chester School in Groton and Poquonnock Bridge School in Noank.

On August 17, 1957, Frances married Anthony Sottile, at St. Patrick Church in Mystic.

Frances belonged to St. Paul’s Church in Waterford, where she was a treasurer. She was a member of the Goshen Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary, where she was also a treasurer. Frances was a Girl Scout Leader for many years; she loved her time with her troops and especially camping. She also enjoyed camping with her family, gardening, yahtzee, card games, and teaching her six oldest grandchildren to read.

Frances leaves behind her daughter, Rosemarie (Sottile) Moskow, her husband, David, and their son, Joshua, of Glastonbury; her late daughter Theresa (Sottile) Brodeur and her late son-in-law, Timothy Brodeur’s daughters, Ashley and Melanie. and son, Sean, of Old Saybrook; her son, Victor and his wife Laura, of Ashaway, RI; her son, Christopher and his wife, Coleen and their daughter, Cydney, and son, Cooper, of North Stonington; her son, Anthony, his wife Addy, and their daughter, Sadie, of Salem; her daughter, Michelle Sottile-Hoyt, and her husband, Doug, of Ledyard; her sister, Anne, and brother-in-law, James (Buddy) O’Neill, of Mystic; nieces, Marianne (O’Neill) Drumm and Kate (O’Neill) O’Neil, and nephews, Michael and Brian.

She was predeceased by her husband; her daughter, Theresa (Sottile) Brodeur and her husband, Timothy Brodeur, from Old Saybrook; and her parents, Mary and Victor Raffo, from Mystic, CT.

Calling hours will be held at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street in Niantic on Wednesday, December 6th, from 5 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7th, at 11 am at St. Paul in Chains Church, 170 Rope Ferry Road in Waterford, immediately followed by the burial at Jordan Cemetery in Waterford.
