Obituary

Emanuel Shluger

It is with aching hearts and great sadness that we mourn the passing of Manny Shluger, a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who died peacefully on July 27, 2019. He was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley. Dad was selfless, generous and caring and was a man who had no hidden agenda, ego or grudge. He was a kind, intelligent and hardworking man who was blessed with a full and satisfying life.

Born to Russian immigrants in 1922 Manny grew up in the predominantly Jewish north end of Hartford and graduated Weaver High School in 1939. He attended the University of Connecticut at Storrs graduating in 1942. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and then attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1949.

For the next 60 years, Manny practiced law in downtown Hartford. He had great respect for the law and his deep devotion to his family motivated him to work hard and provide generously for his wife and three children. His many clients received the benefit of his hard work, wisdom and integrity. He was a lifelong member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the Hartford County Bar Association. Manny enjoyed playing cards, chess, checkers, tennis and watching his children and grandchildren engage in sports.
Manny and Shirley Shluger lovingly raised their three children in West Hartford and were members of Beth El Temple. The family spent every summer at Crescent Beach and they were members of the Niantic Bay Yacht Club. Both of Manny's sons, the Honorable Kenneth Shluger and Attorney Robert Shluger, practiced law in Greater Hartford for many decades. Besides his sons, he leaves his loving and devoted daughter, Terri Landes and her husband Stephen and daughters in law, Beth Shluger and Nancy Shluger. Grandpa Manny will be missed by his 6 adoring grandchildren, Joy, David, Zachary, Thomas, Olivia and Daniel.
We are forever grateful to the compassionate caregivers of Bayview Health Care. Funeral arrangements are private. .
