Personalizing Services

The following are just a few suggestions that can help to personalize the funeral for you. You may of course think of several other unique ways to celebrate and remember your loved one’s life.  If so, please bring them to our attention and we will make every effort to see to it that your wishes are met.

Involve Family & Friends

While you might feel somewhat reluctant to ask, family and friends may feel honored to be involved in your loved one’s funeral service.

Play Special Music

Play Special MusicMusic can be a positive way to remember your loved one. Today, many services feature a mix of religious and secular music played from a CD or even a live musician, i.e. a bagpiper, violinist or pianist.

Show a Tribute Video

Gather precious photos and ask the Neilan Funeral Home to assist you in creating a video presentation with musical accompaniment to show during the service.

Display Personal Belongings

Display Personal BelongingsEven the simplest mementos such as a coin collection, an apron or a set of monogrammed cuff links provide remembrance and comfort during the service. Artwork, awards, an old cap, and other personal items help people understand that the person who died enjoyed many interests.

Mementos or Remembrances

Hand out a small keepsake as friends and family leave the funeral, something that will later bring your loved one to mind.

Place Cherished Items in the Casket

Place Cherished Items in the CasketItems like pictures of the grandchildren and other family members, a photo of the family pet, a favorite golf club, a well worn baseball cap, or a religious item. We welcome all of them as your way of saying good bye.

Think about asking key individuals to contribute a eulogy, remembrance, reading, poem or favorite story. Many times, such contributions can go a long way towards capturing the essence of your loved one.

Create a Photo Collage

Create a Photo CollageThe Photo Collage Board allows families to display photographs, awards and other personal items of the deceased for friends and family to view. As a courtesy to those we serve, we will provide you with the boards and the easels to display the photos.

Dedicate Memorials

Planting a tree, or making a contribution to a relevant charity can create a lasting memory that will also benefit others.

Write a Letter or Have Children Draw Pictures

Write a letter to the person who has died to place into the casket. Your written thoughts will go with your loved one to his or her final resting place.
